In the Name of Odin is another very nice board game in a Kickstarter project and I do have to let you know about it, but first I want to give you an update, because with so many cool Kickstarter projects out there I haven’t been able to write a lot of reviews about board games I actually played. I’m writing a lot about these cool projects because I do believe they need a lot of attention and they are really good (if I think they don’t worth your money, I’ll also let you know). I’m also backing most of these projects I’m talking about here, so I’ll probably be able to do a lot of reviews when I start receiving these games and will have to look for a bigger house to store everything :P.

What is In the Name of Odin?

In the Name of Odin Board GameIn the Name of Odin is a board game for 2 to 5 players where you have to build ships, houses, find allies, increase your army, do raids and become a Jarl.

Besides the main board, each player has a small board that’s used to play one of the 14 heroes and up until 5 of the 15 available buildings cards. Your army is actually Vikings miniatures, which is pretty cool and you still have some other game components like score rings/markers, action cards and long ship cards.

How to play In the Name of Odin?

In the Name of Odin ComponentsAccordingly with recent reviews of the prototype, In the Name of Odin is a game that can easily be played in less than 60 minutes and is easy to understand. Your goal is to be the most famous Viking by raiding and plundering villages. To do that, you’ll have to build ships to travel and buildings to gather resources. At the same time, you start building your Viking army. When you get enough resources, a ship, and an army, you decide which village you’ll raid and depending on your result, you get points for it.

What got my attention in this game is that it has so many variables that you’ll never play the same game. To give you one idea, you have 90 action cards, which you will draw during the game, plus the villages are also drawn from a pile and the ships you build will be different each time depending on what you draw and what’s your strategy.

Here’s a longer gameplay with a lot of details about the game (note that the final art and components are not final as it’s a prototype version):

In the Name of Odin – Kickstarter Details

That’s definitely one of the jewels that will be launched this year. The minimum available pledge for this project is $45, which will give you a copy of the game plus the extras from the stretch goals.

The project has already reached its minimum value to be produced, so enjoy the retailer cost and back it to receive some exclusive Kickstarter extras and be one of the first people to play it (shipping starts on June/2016). I believe everyone will enjoy it.

You can find the link to the project here. Help them make this amazing board game and tell me what you think about it in the comments section below.

Playing board games since I was 8, I created a passion for different styles such as Strategy, Cards, Family and Role Playing Games. My current favourite board games are Ticket to Ride, Tokaido and Rummikub.

  1. Sounds like an awesome game. Love the way you embedded a video showing the game and cards. Very nice promotional touch. I hope you sell a ton of these through your promotion. Thank you.

Hi Peter, I’m glad you liked it. It’s actually not promotional material. I just really liked it and wrote about it. Unfortunately I don’t earn a cent with these Kickstarter projects, but I’m glad to share the information so people like me have the opportunity to help the game designers and actually make the difference to bring the game to life.

  2. This is really cool. I’m always looking for some good board games to play with my family. I’m bookmarking this so I can look at it in more detail later. Thanks!
