Fail Dates ComponentsFail Dates is a new Kickstarter card game project by Fail Brands where your goal is to be the best (or worst) date-buster.

It’s a game for 4 to 6 players and, before I get in any more details, it’s a 18+ game. Be advised.

The game model is very simple: one of the players draws a character that is the date and introduces it with a random fact and why you should date this character. Everyone else has to choose one card with the best horrible line to make the date fail, epically. Here’s one example of a line: “Bark twice if you want dinner”. Sounds exactly what you should say in your first date, right? It get much worse and dirty than that, but as I receive some visits from children, I’ll keep it to a minimum ;).

After the date reads all cards played aloud and everyone have a good laugh, he then chooses the best worse answer that can definitely end the date. When a player wins 5 rounds, the game comes to an end and we have a winner.

It’s incredibly easy to open the box and just start playing it. Here’s a how to play video:

If you think Fail Dates is incredibly similar to Cards Against Humanity (you can check my review here), you’re not wrong. The mechanics are exactly the same, but they make some promises that may turn this in the best choice to be the best worse human (if that’s even possible :P). Among their promises, the creators say that it has a better replay value as the characters are introduced in different ways.

It’s also promised that there are no cards that are just ok. They’re all a punch in the face and go from very safe to extreme NSFW.

The 210 cards (45 characters and 165 lines) come in a shiny durable black box and are coloured.

  1. This game sounds like a good time! My friends and I love cards against humanity so this is definitely right up our alley. I watched the video. I’m a more visual person so that helped understand the game more. Being able to make up a couple facts about the characters will definitely ensure that the game is always changing!

Exactly Stacy. I’m looking forward to play it and do a full review about the experience. It definitely promises a good time with friends.

  2. I really am interested in this new review, very unique where did you ever find this? You have done a very good review, it has interested me and anxious to hear more about this soon.

Thanks Jeff. I’ll do a proper review when I get a copy of the game.

  3. Looks like a pretty cool game. Definitely priced reasonably and yes, not for under 18. I could see this being a perfect game for a pary!

They have an excellent price, specially if you are an early bird. It’s worthy it.

  4. Marcelo,

Here’s a modern twist on Mattel’s “Mystery Date” game from the 1960’s (sure, I’m old, and I played a girl’s game with my sisters and cousins).

It sounds like a lot of fun, and plenty of laughs! Though certainly a bit beyond it’s target age group, my daughters aren’t!

We have a lot of fun with “Games Against Humanity,” so this seems like it would be another good game for family times. (We don’t mind it being NSFW!)

Thanks for the information. I hope they get their Kickstarter soon!

Hey Roger, thanks for your comment.
I can say from experience that there’s not a game that can’t be played by boys or girls. They’re all meant to bring fun and our gender isn’t, and shouldn’t be, a problem. So I bet you had a lot of fun with Mystery Date, am I right? 🙂
For this specific kind of game, believe me, there’s not old enough. I’m pretty sure it’ll give you and your family some incredible good time.
      All the best.

  5. Love the video, it is a great selling point for the game. It looks like a lot of fun as a party game. I think I may just have to own this one. I like the creativity that it brings out in the players when they have to come up with facts about the characters. I think it will be a hoot to play..especailly with a few drinks under our belts!

Haha. It definitely will be hilarious.
The facts about the characters is a very interesting point in the game. I’d like to see how it plays it when we get to really play it.

  6. You really made me want to play this game! It looks like so much fun in the video 🙂 I may be purchasing this soon!

  7. What a great idea for a party game! As a single guy, I’ve probably had some of those experiences and could probably add a few more suggestions! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I am a big board game fan and I appreciate all your reviews.

      Haha Scott.
That’s exactly their point in making this game. We always have said something that shouldn’t be in a date and it generates a lot of jokes after the occasion. So, why not put it all together, add some pepper and make a great mixture of terrible lines that will make us have fun?
